Mass. Added 7,200 Jobs In August; Unemployment Remains At 4.7 Percent

Massachusetts added an estimated 7,200 jobs in August — the 12th straight month of gains — the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported Thursday.

The state unemployment rate however remained at 4.7 percent — the same as in July and below the national jobless rate of 5.1 percent.

The sectors that saw the most job gains included leisure and hospitality, education and health services, and professional, scientific and business services. The manufacturing and government sectors lost jobs.
