Hyannis Woman Identified As Body Found At Highway Rest Area

Cape Cod authorities have released the name of a woman whose body was found at a Route 6 rest area early Saturday.

District Attorney Michael O'Keefe and Barnstable Police Chief Paul McDonald said Sunday the victim was 28-year-old Christine Ferreira of Hyannis.

They said preliminary autopsy results showed Ferreira died from multiple stabbing injuries and gunshot wounds. The state medical examiner is still investigating.

The officials said the case "remains under active investigation" by state police assigned to the district attorney's office and Barnstable police.

Ferreira's body was found at about 4 a.m. in the rest area on the eastbound section of the highway between Exits 6 and 7.
