2 Killed When Car Hits Utility Pole, Burns, In Lowell

Two people have been killed in a fiery car crash in Lowell overnight.

Officers arriving at the scene early Sunday found the burning car on its roof and covered with live electrical wires. They were unable to immediately reach the victims.

Police said the car apparently was traveling south on Bridge Street just after midnight when it crashed into a utility pole on the right side of the road and flipped over. The pole, which had transformers on its top, was split in three pieces.

One person was partially ejected from the car. The second person was found inside.

The medical examiner is working to determine their identities.

Police said there is no sign of another car being involved or any skid marks indicating the car had tried to avoid the crash.
