Grandmother Settles Police Brutality Case, To Receive $125K

A grandmother who accused a police officer of slamming her to the floor in a 2013 racially-motivated outburst has settled her lawsuit.

Sixty-three-year-old Daisy Morales in federal court accused a Worcester police officer of insulting her race, beating her mercilessly and issuing false charges to cover up his alleged misdeeds.

Morales tells the Telegram & Gazette that she wanted to "get it over with" and that facing the officer in court was too much to bear.

She settled her federal lawsuit with the city for $125,000.

The police officer accused in the case remains on the force. City officials Friday declined to state the results of the department's internal investigation or say whether the officer faced discipline.
