Authorities 'Overreacted' In Issuing Amber Alert, Mother's Lawyer Says
The lawyer for a Pennsylvania woman who sparked an Amber Alert when she drove her 2-month-old son to Boston for medical treatment says authorities overreacted.
Tiffany Cherry was released on $250 bail after pleading not guilty Monday to child endangerment. Prosecutors had asked for $250,000 bail.
Cherry became the subject of an Amber Alert when she drove Friday from Wilkes-Barre to Boston Children's Hospital.
Cherry had been told to seek treatment for the dehydrated boy. Her lawyer, Stephen Weymouth, says she drove to Boston because she has family in Massachusetts and felt the boy would get better care.
Weymouth says the Amber Alert was unnecessary.
A judge told Cherry to address three open cases in Massachusetts before surrendering to Pennsylvania authorities within two weeks.
Massachusetts child welfare officials have custody of the baby.
