Elections On Tap In Dozens Of Massachusetts Communities

Municipal elections are approaching in more than 50 Massachusetts communities.

Tuesday's voting will include mayoral contests in several cities including Worcester and Springfield.

Two of the more fiercely-contested races are in the South Shore communities of Quincy and Weymouth.

In Quincy, four-term incumbent Thomas Koch is trying to fend off a challenge from former mayor William Phelan, who served three terms before he was defeated by Koch.

Incumbent Weymouth Mayor Susan Kay is being challenged by Republican state Sen. Robert Hedlund.

A special election is also slated Tuesday in Brockton and several surrounding towns for the state Senate left vacant by the June death of Democratic Sen. Thomas Kennedy. Two state representatives, Democrat Michael Brady and Republican Geoff Diehl, are vying for the seat along with independent Anna Raduc.
