Man Suspected Of Taking Donation Jar From Store Arrested

Norwood police say the suspect caught on video stealing a Jimmy Fund donation can from a convenience store on Thanksgiving Day has been arrested.

Police say the suspect, identified as 44-year-old David Deshiro, of Dedham, turned himself in Friday after his mother saw his picture on the news. He faces a felony larceny charge.

The video posted on Facebook shows a bald man, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, grabbing the canister with his right hand and tucking it under his left arm as he turns to leave Ajay's Market.

For more than 60 years, the cans have been placed in businesses around town by police in the hopes people will donate their change. The Jimmy Fund pays for cancer research and care at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
