Forecast: Colder Pattern Brings Some Snow Tuesday
Although yesterday hit 50 degrees in Boston for the 20th time, we are about to have much more typical December weather including some snow.
The colder air filtered into the region last night and now temperatures are just above or below freezing. There will be plenty of sunshine today, but because the air flow is from the north, temperatures won’t go up much if at all throughout the day.
The clouds from our next system roll in overnight and in the wee hours of the morning snow will break out from southwest to northeast. There will be a period when the snow is actually coming down quite hard, but it’s not going to last very long. This is because warmer air will be streaming in at high levels and changing the snow to a mixed bag and eventually rain.
The precipitation will come to an end Tuesday evening followed by some clearing. Wednesday looks like a quiet day as high pressure temporarily takes hold before the next, weaker weather system moves in late in the day or at night.
How much snow? The map below shows how much snow is predicted during Tuesday, most of this occurs between 3 a.m and 10 a.m.
It appears some rain showers will be around Wednesday night. The good news is the final day of 2015 and the first day of 2016 both look dry and not very cold. This will be great if you are going to be outside heading to parties or just with family.
This pattern likely continues into the weekend with dry and seasonably cold weather. The pattern has definitely changed and we won’t be seeing 50 degree warmth for a while.
