Teen Bicyclist Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In Lowell

A 15-year-old teen bicyclist was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene, authorities say.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor say the accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday on Lawrence Street in Lowell. They didn't say how the accident happened but said the driver apparently fled the scene.

The unidentified victim was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with severe injuries, Ryan and Taylor said.

State and local police are investigating.
