Forecast: Pleasant Temperatures With A Slight Chance Of A Shower

You likely noticed the humidity levels dropping yesterday, and although it was warm, at least it wasn’t very humid.

Some areas did see a bit of rain, but if you are thinking it helped the drought, think again. On average, we see over a quarter of an inch of rain every couple of days. Now, that’s an average, so what we saw yesterday and might see Thursday only slows the drought, but doesn’t make a dent.

Today is a sunny day to start, but clouds will build, and there could be a few spotty showers in the afternoon. This isn’t a big deal, and most areas will stay dry. It’s important to remember showers this time of year are highly variable in intensity and location.

Thursday a more widespread area of rain will pass south of New England. We will be on the northern fringe. The position of this storm will keep a cooler flow of air for a day and temperatures will actually be below seasonal averages.

The map below shows the predicted extent of the rainfall Thursday in the early afternoon. Notice how most of the concentrated rain (greens, yellows, etc.) is to our south. I think some of you could miss the rain entirely, exacerbating the drought even more.

The end of the work week is going to see a return to sunshine. If you have a schedule that allows you to be off on Fridays in the summer, it will be a nice day to get outside, head to a body of water or play some golf.

The weekend is looking quite nice right now with highs in the 80s to perhaps near 90 well inland by Sunday. A cooling sea breeze keep the beaches comfortably cool. If you haven’t been outside in the middle of the day the past several weeks, you’ll definitely notice the strength of the sun, which can give you a sunburn in as little as 15 minutes.

Today: Mainly sunny then clouds and a few showers possible, quite pleasant. Highs 76-81.

Tonight: Clear and comfortable. Lows 54-64, warmest in Boston.

Thursday: Mainly cloudy, a few showers in the middle of the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s.

Friday: Partly sunny, highs in the 70s to lower 80s.

Saturday: Mostly sunny and warm. Highs 82-87. Warmest inland, cooler 70s Cape Cod.

Sunday: Sunny and warm. Highs 82-90, warmest in the Merrimack Valley.
