Boston Man Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash in Mattapan

A Boston man is facing charges after police say he struck and killed a pedestrian with a rental car and then fled the scene.

Anthony Buchanan, of Dorchester, turned himself in to police early Sunday morning. He is charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor and related crimes.

State police say the 39-year-old Buchanan was driving erratically and speeding when he struck the victim around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at an intersection in Mattapan. Police say Buchanan stopped briefly and then drove away.

Police identified the victim as a 46-year-old Boston woman. Police haven't released her name.

Police determined the vehicle involved in the crash had been rented by Buchanan.

Buchanan is being held pending an arraignment Tuesday. It's unclear whether Buchanan has a lawyer.
