Forecast: Sunshine Returns For Columbus Day

I'm not usually happy when I get the forecast wrong, but I was definitely not expecting the volume of rain we saw Sunday, especially along the coast. Many areas surpassed one, two or even three inches of rain. Some areas received even more.

The rain was due to a slow-moving cold front which helped move the northern end of the rains from Hurricane Matthew into New England. What's interesting is the models had this solution to the forecast a week ago but then backed off and kept the rain south. Ultimately, many areas around Boston had a day of beneficial rain.

Monday will feature mostly sunny skies and pleasantly cool temperatures. If you cancelled plans Sunday because of the rain and you have the day off perhaps you can get them done now. It will be cold tonight with a frost possible in colder areas away from the coast. There is even a chance of freezing conditions west of Route 495.

The sunshine is going to continue all day today and for the rest of the week. Temperatures will be pleasant, reaching the 60 degree mark this afternoon and remaining there or a bit higher the rest of the week. I don't see any rainfall in our future as high pressure remains in control.

This nice weather should continue into the upcoming weekend with seasonable tempertures and I still don't see a chance of frost.  Have a good holiday.
