Forecast: Seasonably Cold Weather Today, But Bitter Cold Air For Friday

A nice start to the morning with clear skies and plenty of sunshine.

There are lots of rapid changes coming with the weather this week. I don't see any storms, but several small weather-makers will bring changes each day. A weather system will be moving south of the area tonight, with a few rain and snow showers possible.

We are not looking at anything significant, and many areas will stay dry. If you do get a snow shower this evening, it might sugar coat the ground.

If the clouds break tonight, check out the full moon. We may get some glimpses of it through the clouds. This is another "Supermoon," and that means more so-called king tides — or astronomically high tides — the rest of the week.

Tomorrow it's back to the sunshine and seasonably cold air. A cold front will bring another arctic air mass into the area for Thursday and Friday. The cold is the big weather story later this week.

This blast of air from the north is coming on a trajectory which is pretty direct. This means the air will be very cold when it arrives, having not been modified coming from say, the Midwest, where it would have a chance to warm a bit.

Thursday is cold with highs only in the 20s. Friday is very cold with highs in the teens. The morning will see wind chill readings around 20 below. Get ready to break out your warmest weather gear!

The map below shows potential lows Friday morning per the GFS model. Notice the zero line is close to southern New England.
