Forecast: Milder Air Later Today, Some Light Precipitation This Weekend

Temperatures yesterday averaged 12 degrees below season normal. Today we find milder air moving northward, and this is bringing more clouds and a return of some wind, especially this afternoon.

The temperature contrast between the warmer air and the colder air will bring a period of snow or rain. This is often the case when you transition from one air mass to another. It's worth noting, if the boundary between two air masses moves far enough away from an area, then skies usually clear. If the boundary stays close, then unsettled weather results. We will have to contend with our boundary.

Don't be surprised if you see a period of snow later this morning or early afternoon, but it's not going to amount to anything. This is the milder air arriving. Along with a rise in the mercury, the air won't be nearly as dry, so if chapped lips were bothering you the past couple of days, they should be better.

In the case of this particular frontal system, it's going to remain close enough so our weather will not become bright and sunny again for several more days. The weekend will feature lots of clouds and some chances of showers. The highest risk of precipitation comes later Sunday, but I left showers in the forecast for Saturday. Even with the chance of showers tomorrow, it's actually more likely most of the time is dry.

Monday a renewed area of rain moves northward along this same front. This could bring more substantial amounts of rainfall on the order of a half to three-quarters of an inch of precipitation.

Eventually during the middle of the next week drier air will arrive and sunshine will return.

Have a great weekend.
