Boston Police: Thief Nabs North End Fire Station Boot Filled With Donations

Police in Boston are searching for a thief who stole a boot outside of a fire station used to collect money for charity.

Authorities say the theft occurred Sunday morning at the North End fire station.

Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald says it appears someone stole the boot while crews were out responding to a call. The boot was used to collect money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and similar boots are seen at fire stations throughout the country.

MacDonald says the empty boot was found at Battery Wharf. MacDonald says it's not clear how much money was stolen from the boot, but firefighters at the station say it may have contained as much as $500.

Police continue to investigate. Firefighters have placed a new boot outside their station.
