Forecast: Sunny With Unusually High Temps. In The 70s Throughout Weekend

As we head into the latter part of October, high temperatures in the Boston area should be around 60 degrees with overnight lows in the 40s.

The jet stream is pushing far to the north and a ridge of strong high pressure will dominate our weather through the weekend. We will see temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees above normal with lots of sunshine. Today, the high will be around 68 degrees.

The next system will not enter the picture until Tuesday when clouds increase as a cold front moves in from the west. Showers should develop by later Tuesday with noticeably cooler air spilling into the northeast during the midweek period.

Over the next few days, sky watchers will be able to get a great glimpse of the Orionid meteor showers, caused by the debris of Halley’s Comet. Skies will be mostly clear at night and with a “new moon” phase, it will be extra dark due to the lack of moonlight.

The peak Orionid meteor showers should occur just after midnight Friday night into early Saturday morning with as many as 20 per hour.

How To Watch Meteor Showers

Meteor showers, more commonly known as shooting stars, are easy to spot. All you need are clear skies and your eyes. Get away from downtown locations and find a place far away from artificial lights. Then, just watch and wait!

Lastly, much of New England is shrouded in fall foliage. From southern Maine to Northwestern Connecticut, leaf peepers can experience high to peak colors this weekend. The further south one travels, only moderate colors will be seen. Some parts of northern New England and higher elevations are now past peak and experiencing leaf drop.

Monday: Partly sunny with a high of 73.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a few showers. Cooler. Highs around 70 on Tuesday; 64 on Wednesday.
