Forecast: Milder Thursday, Colder This Weekend

Some passing overnight snow showers could cause a few slippery spots around the area early this morning, mainly north and west of the city. Today will see milder temperatures with highs reaching into the 40s.

I can't rule out a rain shower or two this afternoon, but in general this is not going to be a wet day. A cold front will pass offshore overnight tonight into early on Friday, and this will change any of the rain showers to snow showers. We could see a coating to an inch or two of snow tomorrow morning. The highest likelihood of accumulating snow is in Southeastern Massachusetts, as well as the higher elevations in New Hampshire and Vermont. This really isn't a big deal but it doesn't take much to create problems on the roadways.

After this weather system pushes offshore, Friday will see a blend of clouds and sunshine with blustery and colder conditions. Saturday is the coldest day of the upcoming weekend, with highs staying under the 30 degree mark along with a noticeable wind.

On Sunday, another weather system approaches the area and there could be some snow showers throughout the day. Expect temperatures from 35 to 40. I don't expect much in the way of travel trouble.

A more significant storm moves up the coastline Sunday night and Monday, bringing steady rain or snow. The exact position of the rain snow line is going to determine whether or not we are shoveling or just using our windshield wipers heading into work on Monday morning.

One note of interest: Today is the first day that we will see 10 hours of daylight since last fall. By the end of the month that number will be over 11 hours.
