Forecast: Back To February Weather

I feel like the past couple of days was like getting on a plane and flying somewhere warm, enjoying the weather, and then getting back on the plane to come home. Boston and much of the region had to back-to-back days exceeding 70 degrees, the first time such an event has occurred during meteorological winter, December through February.

More amazingly, Fitchburg reaching a whopping 80 — the warmest temperature ever recorded in the entire state in February. Now it's back to reality and we have a unsettled pattern.

Temperatures will be about 40 degrees colder this afternoon, as a northerly flow of air drains into the region. At the same time, a storm will be traversing the state from west to east and we can expect a mix of snow, sleet and even some freezing rain in addition to the rain.

This isn't a big system by any means, there could be up to an inch on the ground. There could be some slick areas on your ride home this evening, so plan accordingly.

Another wave of low pressure will move in on Friday with more rain, especially in the afternoon and overnight. It will be raw with readings only in the 30s.

Saturday is my pick for the weekend, with clouds giving way to some sunshine and temperatures reaching into the upper 40s to mid-50s. More wet weather returns with a chilly rain on Sunday.
