Forecast: Early Spring-Like Weather Continues

As the month comes to a close, let's note that this February will go down as one of the warmest on record. In keeping with the past several weeks, today will once again be much milder than it should be for this time of year.

The nice weather continues into tomorrow and even Thursday features warmer-than-average temperatures. It all comes to a crashing halt this weekend, however, as our pattern undergoes a major shift for the start of March.

Late this week a storm system will develop southward and turn into a very large and intense ocean system. This will provide a strong onshore wind for several days. The combination of the consistent wind, the high waves and the astronomical high tides are most definitely going to bring at least some beach erosion and coastal flooding to the area starting either Thursday night or Friday and continuing to perhaps as long as Sunday.

The exact unfolding of the system and its eventual track will determine whether or not southern New England gets into the precipitation shield in a major way or not. There's also still the opportunity for some very wet snow to get involved, especially over inland areas.

Stuck Pattern

The atmosphere is evolving into what's called a blocking pattern. These patterns often create big and slow moving storms and the models have a difficult time with the movement of systems during a blocking regime. Later today and by early Wednesday things will become much clearer as to the future evolution of this storm.
