Forecast: Mild Today, Very Cold By Sunday

It's really going to feel quite lovely out today with temperatures getting into the 60s. There will also be a blend of clouds and sunshine. Even much of the coastline around Cape Cod will have temperatures well into the 50s, making today a truly spring day.

I wish I could say this nice weather was going to last, but a frontal system from the north will put us back into a very cold air mass later tomorrow into Sunday.

As the cold air moves into New England there could be some sleet or a few rain showers. This will make Sunday one of the coldest April 15ths on record.

The mild air does try to come back on Monday, and this is where rain showers will arrive. Steady rain will develop in the afternoon along with gusty winds from the south.

For anyone participating in the Boston Marathon, this means the wind will hit you on your right side heading into Boston. The rain could be accompanied by a few thunderstorms as well and that can obviously affect the race itself. I would say there's a 50-50 chance the Red Sox game will be postponed on Monday.

The system moves out of the region Monday night and Tuesday is a better day with seasonably cool temperatures. Much of next week we will see typical April weather rather than the chill we have experienced as of late.
