Forecast: A Messy Week Before A Nice Weekend

Yesterday's weather was simply awful. Rainfall amounts around 2 inches were common, but a few spots got close to 3 inches. It's certainly a story for anyone participating or watching the Boston Marathon yesterday.

The next couple of days will feature sunshine blended with clouds, along with temperatures in the upper 40s and lower 50s. I can't rule out a sprinkle or shower this afternoon. Temperatures are still below average. For this time of year, it would be more typical to see readings in the mid-to-upper 50s.

Another storm system approaches from the west on Thursday and with cold high pressure to the north as the precipitation falls, it's going to be in the form of a very chilly rain or even a wet snow.

It's likely some areas north and west of I-495 are going to have some accumulation mainly on the grassy surfaces Thursday night into early Friday. Some of the highest elevations could see enough snow to shovel or plow if the situation continues to unfold in a cold manner.

The rain will not be as heavy Thursday into early Friday but some areas could see half an inch to an inch of precipitation.

I think this is the final system in what's been a wet and cold spring so far. Once we get beyond Friday, conditions improve and the weekend right now is looking like it will be mainly dry and sunny with temperatures starting to warm up.
