Forecast: Showers Later Today, But It's Looking Like A Mostly Nice Weekend

On Thursday, I noticed how damp the soil was while working in the garden. We really don't need any more rain right now, but we're going to be getting more later today, anyway. There could even be a couple of heavy downpours.

A new area of low pressure will move through New England this afternoon, bringing us an increase in cloud cover and eventual showers. This could impact the Red Sox game this evening and may cause a delay or perhaps a postponement. Although, a postponement is less likely to happen.

The showers will end late tonight, and although there could be a lingering one into early Saturday, the bulk of Saturday will be quite sunny.

With the shower activity today, readings will stay in the 60s, but with the sunshine, we should reach near 70 degrees on Saturday. You'll notice more growth in plant life — everything from your lawn to the leaves on the trees.

A week frontal system passes the region Saturday night into early Sunday, ushering in slightly colder air. Clouds remain the dominant feature on Sunday, and there may be a shower or two.

Temperatures Sunday and Monday will be in the upper 50s to low 60s. That's actually quite typical for late April.

Next week, starting on Tuesday, temperatures will be on the rebound. As a matter of fact, we could see two to three days with readings into the 80s. This is still a five-day forecast, and if the upper level low — which will be over us on Monday — moves a little bit slower, then the warmth will be delayed. But, it is going to turn warmer next week. There's almost no question about that.
