East Boston Explosion Not Linked To Terrorism, Police Say

An explosion at a triple-decker home in East Boston early Sunday morning left a man in critical condition with second-degree burns, police said.

According to Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, Tomas Mikula, 28, was tinkering with chemicals in his apartment when they "blew up in his face."

Evans said several weapons and ammunition were found in Mikula's home, but police do not believe the explosion is linked to terrorism.

Mikula was arrested and charged with willful discharge of an incendiary device, as well as unlawful possession of explosives and other weapons.
