The Boston city councilor representing East Boston says the city doesn't have a focused vision for the neighborhood, as the city council plans to meet Monday to discuss the area's future.

City Councilor Lydia Edwards, who represents the district and is sponsoring the zoning initiative hearing, says it's more critical than ever to focus on keeping housing prices down and easing traffic.

"We now potentially have Amazon coming into East Boston. We have a hundred acres of land that's going to be developed, 7,000 to 10,000 new units," she says. "There's just all of these different projects but no plan. I think it was irresponsible after a certain point."

Mayor Marty Walsh says his administration has been working closely with the community.

"I think now people now feel overwhelmed there is so much interest in East Boston after so many years of not being interested," he says.

Walsh says the city continues to consult residents about the possibility of Amazon choosing the area for a second headquarters.
