2 Dead After Collision In Cotuit

Two men died in a two-car collision in Cotuit around midnight Saturday, police said.

Barnstable police responded to reports of a head-on motor vehicle collision on Route 28 at 12:10 a.m., Barnstable Police said in a statement.

A 22-year-old man from Fall River was driving a 2000 Toyota sedan east on Route 28 when he collided head-on with a 2012 GMC SUV, being driven west by a 32-year-old Mashpee man, the statement said.

The Fall River man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Mashpee man died after being transported to South Shore Hospital with severe injuries.

A 24-year-old New Bedford woman, who was a passenger in the Mashpee man's car, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in critical condition, officials said. There was no update on her condition as of 1:50 p.m.

Route 28 was shut down for several hours, police said.

Barnstable Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
