Gov. Charlie Baker, a popular Republican incumbent in a Democratic-leaning state, has easily fended off a GOP primary challenge.

The Associated Press called the race for Baker at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, about an hour after polls closed.

Baker beat far-right Springfield pastor Scott Lively.

Baker has at times criticized President Trump. Lively had said he's closely aligned with the president.

The governor will face the winner of the Democratic primary, either Jay Gonzalez or Bob Massie.
