Student Shot, Killed Outside R.I. High School On Second Day Of Classes

A 15-year-old student has been shot and killed outside a Rhode Island high school on just the second day of the academic year.

Providence Police Chief Col. Hugh Clements tells the Providence Journal the male student died after he was shot outside the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, who Clements didn't name, had been rushed to the hospital after he was found was lying near the school's sign around the time classes dismissed.

Clements said police have a "person of interest" in custody.

He said police are also investigating the shooting of another teenage boy that happened about a mile away but it's not clear if it's connected.

Police say that boy was shot in the thigh and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.
