5 Things To Do This Weekend, From St. Patrick's Day To A Ziggy Stardust Tribute

It may not feel like spring just yet, but daylight savings is a ray of hope at the end of a bleak New England winter. Now is the time to venture out into the world and experience what Boston has to offer:

Women Take The Reel Film Festival
Various Locations

Through March 28

Throughout Women’s History Month, the Women Take The Reel Film Festival is showing films directed by women from around the world. On Thursday you can catch the eerie, genre-defying “Madeline’s Madeline” and on Saturday check out the queer Kenyan coming-of-age film “Rafiki.” (Here are other film screenings to check out this month.)

The Rape Of Lucretia
Artists for Humanity EpiCenter, Boston

Through March 17

The Boston Lyric Opera tackles a work at once ancient and timely: “The Rape of Lucretia,” Benjamin Britten’s opera based on the Roman myth. Staged with care, the BLO production does not shy away from play’s obvious resonances with the #MeToo era. (Read Keith Powers' feature.)

A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn
Sanders Theatre and the Cabot Theatre

Friday, March 15 - Sunday, March 17

Tired of the usual green-beer-fueled St. Patrick Day debauchery (or the classic Dropkick Murphys set at House of Blues)? "A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn" is the perfect antidote, with performances by top-notch Celtic players from Boston and beyond, including the excellent Friel Sisters, featured below.

Looking Out, Looking In: Contemporary Artists From Morocco
Boston University's Stone Gallery

Through March 31

“Looking Out, Looking In” features work from seven Moroccan photographers and videographers. By turns political and intimate, each piece in its own way considers the act of looking.

Ziggy Stardust Tribute
Lizard Lounge, Cambridge

Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16

Who doesn’t love a good tribute concert? Lead by the folk singer Justin Nash Fisher, a group of Boston-area musicians cover David Bowie’s glam-rock classic, “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.”
