Sunshine Brings An Elevated Fire Risk Today

The main weather story today is actually the dry weather. This time of the year before everything leafs out and when last year's dead material is on the ground, fire danger can grow quickly. With very dry air in place and plenty of sunshine and a breeze there is an elevated fire risk for today. Of course we should all be careful every day, but this is not a day you want to be doing any outdoor burning.

That said, we can enjoy plenty of sunshine, a little less wind and seasonable temperatures this afternoon. Tomorrow is also a nice day, with more in the way of sunshine to start, but clouds to finish. A weak weather system will cross the region Friday night into early Saturday and bring a few showers, nothing heavy. Temperatures will be cooler tomorrow with the increased cloud cover and a wind from the south off Long Island Sound, which is chilly.

The second half of Saturday looks nice with a blend of clouds and sunshine and temperatures get into the lower 60s. On Sunday once again we'll have dry weather with temperatures approaching 60 degrees. I give it a 30 percent chance field practices need to be cancelled Saturday morning. We will look at this again tomorrow.

Early next week a warm front will try to move into the area. To the south of this temperatures will be well into the 60s and even some 70s, but to the north it's going to be in the 40s. This contrast could lead to some rain and depending on exactly which side of the front we end up will mean windows open or heat on. Right now the forecast for Monday is very unsure so stay tuned later this week for a more definitive look at early next week.
