Today's Weather: A Frustratingly Cool Spring Day

As you wake up this morning, get ready for another chilly and cloudy day with a raw easterly flow. Spring in New England can be particularly frustrating and one need only to look back at the temperatures last night between Boston and New York.

Check out the image below, which shows temperatures across New York in the 60s and 70s, while it was in the 30s around here. There were even several inches of snow as close as Portland, Maine yesterday.

We are watching an area of rain that will progress east later this afternoon and early evening. Hopefully, this will hold off until after the Red Sox home opener.

Temperatures will be very chilly this afternoon, remaining around 40 degrees right at the coast and into the low to mid-40s as you get over inland areas. More showers will arrive after 5 p.m. tonight and continue for the first part of the evening before tapering off.

Tomorrow brings another cloudy and damp start. There may even be a couple of wet snowflakes over northern Essex County, along with some drizzle. During the afternoon, skies will brighten and temperatures will be a little bit better — getting well into the 40s.

Thursday features seasonable readings with sunshine, and will be the nicest of the next several days. On Friday, we'll start with sunshine and end with clouds. I'm hoping that the rain holds off until Friday night and then departs on Saturday.

Right now, we may have a similar situation to last weekend, when it started rather cloudy early Saturday but we ended up with beautiful weather both Saturday and Sunday.

Unfortunately, the marathon still looks chilly with the chance for significant rain. More on that system to come as the week progresses.
