Today's Weather: Clear Day Followed By More Rain Overnight

The heavy rain of yesterday is over and after brief morning showers in some areas, we're looking at improving conditions today.

Clearing will arrive west to east, but it may take the entire day, if at all, for extreme coastal areas to see a lot of sunshine. This will bring out a wide range in temperatures in those areas that see the sun. Areas west of Route 495 down toward the Connecticut River Valley could reach 70 or higher, whereas Cape Cod and the islands may stay in the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

A frontal system will move through the area overnight and bring a chance for some light showers. These showers will not be like the coastal system which just brought 1 to 2 inches of rain. Rather, this one will only bring a tent to perhaps as high as half an inch of rain toward the New Hampshire border.

There may be a lingering shower early Wednesday morning followed by partial clearing. This sets up the best day of the work week, which has all along looked like it was going to be Thursday. I expect basically completely sunny skies and temperatures at seasonably mild levels.

We are in an active pattern, so the nice weather doesn't last more than a day with a chance for showers moving back in Friday. The showers could last into early Saturday morning. However, once again the trend will be for clearing and a pretty nice balance of the day.

Sunday also looks dry, although a weather system will be approaching from the west. If it holds together, there may be some late-day showers — or it's equally likely that the whole thing falls apart before it gets here. More on that as the week progresses.
