Today's Weather: Temperatures Cool As Sunshine Returns

Rain showers and a bit of rumbling thunder finished out our Tuesday but today, we have a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine and cooler temperatures.

A cold front passed through the area, ushering in Canadian air after yesterday's taste of mid-70s. I don't see another day that warm for a while.

Tonight is going to be quite chilly. The readings will get down into the upper 30s in the coldest spots and low to mid-40s elsewhere. Thursday is also another pretty nice day, at least for the first part, before clouds increase and begin to thicken at day's end.

Another weather system moves through the area Thursday night into Friday, with showers. It looks like the heaviest rain will stay to the north of the Mass Pike, but all of us will get wet here Friday. Generally, I'm expecting anywhere from a quarter of an inch to an inch of rain, with the least amount over Cape Cod and the most toward the New Hampshire border.

The weekend, of course, also brings Mother's Day. Saturday is looking fantastic with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid-60s. This will be the first time in a while we've started the weekend on a sunny note. It's definitely going to rain sometime Sunday night or Monday. The question is how quickly that system moves into the area — and whether or not Sunday ends up with a few showers by the end of the day or we make it through the daylight hours dry. Either way, the morning looks to be the best weather.
