Husband Charged In Connection With Lexington Woman's Death

Nearly a week after a Lexington woman was found dead in a car on Worthen Road, investigators have pointed to her husband as the culprit.

Police arrested Hongyan Sun, 50, also of Lexington, in connection with the death of his wife, Shen Cai, 49. Cai was found early on May 30 in a white Honda CR-V on Worthen Road, and her death was ruled a homicide by mechanical asphyxiation, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Officials say Sun and Cai were going through a divorce and that Cai had told her friends and her attorney that Sun was controlling and that she feared for her safety. She said Sun verbally abused her, and on one occasion, had physically abused her.

Police learned the couple had a physical altercation on May 28 and said both Sun and Cai had injuries that would be consistent with a violent struggle.

Officials accuse Sun of staging Cai's body in the car after the struggle, in an attempt to mislead investigators.

Sun is scheduled to be arraigned in Concord District Court on Thursday.
