Boston police are investigating a fatal shooting in Roslindale Wednesday afternoon.

Officers found a man believed to be in his 20s suffering with "an apparent gunshot wound" and pronounced him dead at the scene on Rowe Street, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said in a press conference Wednesday evening. The officers received a call about the shooting at around 3 p.m.

"I have been in this job for six months and have had to speak to too many families in regard to gun violence," said Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins, who also spoke at the press conference.

Gross said Boston officers and homicide detectives were knocking on doors in the neighborhood to try to find witnesses or any video footage of the area. A trauma response team was also dispatched to the area, and Gross said anyone looking to get in touch with them could call at  617-431-0125.

The shooting is the city's 23rd homicide this year. That's six fewer homicides than last year.
