Woman Hit By Car In O'Neill Tunnel After Exiting Ride Hail Car

A Boston woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she got out of a car on Interstate 93 and was struck by another vehicle Monday morning, police say.

Troopers and Boston EMS responded to the southbound side of the O'Neill Tunnel at about 7:39 a.m., State Police said in a statement. The 29-year-old woman was in the roadway when they arrived, police said. She was taken to Tufts Medical Center, not Massachusetts General Hospital as police previously said.

Police say an investigation found that the woman called for an Uber to drive her from Logan Airport to an address in Boston. During the trip, she exited the driver's 2012 Mazda CX9 and was struck by a 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by a Charlestown man. Investigators say they don't know why she got out of the car.

Police said they have interviewed the female driver of the ride-hail car and the male driver of the vehicle that hit her. The crash remains under investigation.
