Today's Weather: Big Changes In Temperature From Morning To Evening

Although it's October now, it certainly still feels like summer this morning, with temperatures not too far from 70 degrees and even some humidity in the air.

Today is one of those interesting days where high temperatures are likely reached between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. After this time, cooler air from the north will begin to filter in. You'll really notice the change in temperature by the end of the day, with most of us back down into the 50s, after reaching 80 in a few spots.

This is also of those situations where if the cool air holds off just a little longer, your particular town could exceed 80 degrees. The most likely spots for this would be south of the Mass Pike.

As this  rush of cool air arrives, there could be a few showers and even a thunderstorm. There's always the chance of a downpour as well. Across the North Shore, temperatures will fall first — eventually reaching all the way down toward New York City this evening.

There will be a bit of a lull in the wet weather tomorrow before another system brings back some shower activity later Thursday evening. With cooler air in place, there might actually be some wet snow across the higher elevations of Maine as the Thursday night system moves in.

Skies will clear Friday, but it remains chilly.  This air mass will set us up for the coldest night of the early fall season. For those of you who live in the normally colder spots, you will want to think about covering your plants Friday night, as there could be some frost — especially north and west of Route 495.
