76-Year-Old Dies After Assault At Nursing Home In Haverhill

Prosecutors say a 76-year-old man who was assaulted at a residential nursing facility in Massachusetts has died of his injuries.

The Essex District Attorney's Office said Sunday that Haverhill Police responded to the Oxford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Main Street in Haverhill for a report of an assaultive patient at the facility Saturday night.

The office says police found the 76-year-old man suffering from injuries from a physical assault. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not publicly released.

The office says 83-year-old Jose Veguilla was arrested and taken to the hospital for an evaluation. He's expected to be arraigned Monday.

It's unclear whether Veguilla is represented by an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
