Pilot Killed in New Bedford Small Plane Crash

The pilot of a small plane died when the craft crashed into a New Bedford cemetery Monday afternoon.

The Federal Aviation Administration says a Cessna 150 crashed at the Rural Cemetery at about 3 p.m. Monday. The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that the pilot, who was flying alone, was killed in the crash.

The FAA says the plane departed from New Bedford Regional Airport, which is about 5 miles north of the cemetery, which dates to the 1800s and is located near the Rhode Island state line.

The agency says it will investigate and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident.

The New Bedford firefighters' union said on its social media accounts that its members were responding to the crash.
