Today's Weather: Bright And Seasonable Wednesday

There are a couple of shots of cold air over the next week, the first of which will arrive later Thursday night and be with us through the start of the weekend. The next one will come sometime during the middle part of next week.

Today's weather looks quite nice, although it will be a bit breezy. Temperatures will reach the lower 50s and there will be plenty of sunshine. This is a good day to perhaps put some of the hoses away and do any of the yard clean-up that still needs to be done. The leaves should dry out quite quickly by the middle part of the morning from yesterday's rain.

On Thursday, we'll start with sunshine and then as a frontal system approaches, the clouds will increase. It does look like a period of rain is coming that night and into early Friday.

Earlier this week, I thought we might see some snow as this first blast of cold air moves into the region. In order for us to get snow, we would have to keep the moisture around after the cold air arrived, and now it appears that the moisture will depart as the cold air moves in. Therefore — other than a brief flake or two — I don't expect any snowfall in eastern Massachusetts.

However, the higher terrain north of Route 2 and into New Hampshire could see a bit of slushy accumulation early Friday but even there, it's just a chance.

Saturday will be sunny with wintry temperatures in the 20s at sunrise, then in the 30s for most of the morning and only topping out around 40 degrees between noon and 3 p.m. Sunday will be less cold.
