Weekend Weather: Nice Friday, But Colder Weather Follows

A week ago, things turned really chilly — and it looks as though the pattern will continue to be below normal for the future. Today is somewhat of an exception, with temperatures reaching foreseeable near 50 degrees along with plenty of sunshine.

A strong cold front will be moving out of Canada later tonight, ushering in another blast of arctic air for Saturday. Temperatures will once again struggle to get above freezing and with somewhat of a blustery breeze, it will feel even colder.

There will be plenty of sunshine, however. Sunday is not quite as cold, with readings getting toward 40 degrees, and there will also be less wind. Many ski areas are opening up across New England this weekend. Since it's been relatively cold for the past week, many areas had the chance to make snow — and there's also been a bit of natural snow as well. Early skiing can be limited in terms of terrain, but can also be quite fun, as there's not the big crowds or the bitter cold of January.

The weather pattern looks to me to be unsettled next week. I don't think it's going to be precipitating every single day, but there are going to be several storm systems: a couple along the coast and one coming in from the west. This will lead to quite a bit of cloudiness as well as several chances for precipitation. Although temperatures will be cool for this time of year, it won't be cold enough for snow and I'm not expecting any of it.
