Today's Weather: Coastal Storm Brings Rain And Wind

If you're keeping track, it certainly has been a very chilly first part of November. We haven't seen anything quite this cold since 1992, so definitely the coldest this century.

Today we see a bit of wintry weather for a few hours early this morning. There's a freezing rain across the interior, but it isn't a big system. Remember, it takes the smallest of ice coatings to create a problem when it comes to freezing rain. Therefore, as you step outside, just check under foot to be sure that you have some traction. Some DPW crews may be already at work.

We are not going to see a lot of rainfall today, just some light stuff moving in from the ocean. It will be raw and damp all day long with a wind off the water and some minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide between about 3 and 5 p.m.

The wind could be strong enough for a few scattered power outages over parts of Cape Cod, but I don't expect anything major — partly because the winds aren't going to reach levels that would create widespread power outages. Further, the leaves are off the trees, which gives us a little more wiggle room for wind.

Temperatures today will remain in the 30s over inland areas, and even in Boston, we may not exceed 40 degrees. As you get toward the Cape, temperatures will be in the lower 40s and we will even see mid-40s over Nantucket.

As the storm system pulls up into eastern Maine the rain will end, but there's an upper-level system that will come through early Tuesday morning with another round of precipitation. This means that Tuesday morning, we will feature some showers for the commute, potentially slowing down your ride to work.

Skies will clear later Tuesday and the middle part of the week looks dry and still on the cooler side of average. There's no doubt that November 2019 will go down as a cold month. It could mean the entire winter may average colder than normal.
