Today's Weather: Bright And Sunny Ahead Of An Unsettled Thursday

The sun has returned for today, but won't last beyond that as another weather system moves in tomorrow. If you're reading this early Wednesday, be aware that there could be some black ice from residual moisture that froze overnight.

Our next weather system arrives Thursday in the wee hours of the morning, with some mixed precipitation changing over to rain. Any snow and sleet that is going to fall should do so before the morning commute.

It looks to me like we will see a coating to perhaps an inch of snow around Greater Boston, but there could be 1 to 3 inches north and west of Route 495 and up toward Route 2.

The winter, which looked promising back in December, has become quite the dud for those who wanted snow and cold. I don't really see much of a change in this pattern through the rest of the month, and it's actually likely to continue into March as well.

There will be a couple of cold days Friday and Saturday, but nothing extreme — more on the order of what you'd expect this time of year.

Look for plenty of bright sunshine and if you are headed up to Northern New England for the long holiday weekend or school vacation week, you can expect plenty of good skiing.
