Police Identify Dorchester Woman Whose Son Is Charged With Her Murder

Boston police have identified a woman whose son faces a murder charge in connection with her death.

Gisel Thomas, 51, of Dorchester, was found dead near 357 Columbia Road at about 2:20 p.m. Thursday, police said in a statement Saturday.

Zackery Grandy, 22, was held without bail at his arraignment Friday on a murder charge in the beating death of Thomas. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

He was ordered to undergo an evaluation at a state psychiatric facility. Grandy is "delusional" and "completely out of touch with reality," said his attorney, Keith Halpern.

The woman's death was the city's 10th homicide of the year, police said.
