Gravel Covers Highway Lanes In O'Neill Tunnel, Making For A Rocky Monday A.M. Commute

A dump truck rolled over and spilled gravel across three highway lanes in the O'Neill Tunnel during Monday morning's commute, snarling traffic for miles.

The truck was a 2014 Freightliner owned by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, State police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement. The driver, a 30-year-old Mattapan man, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All lanes have been re-opened, Procopio said in the statement, which was sent just before noon.

Photos and videos posted to Twitter on Monday morning showed gravel coating lanes inside the tunnel and beyond.
