Today's Weather: Very Mild, With Possible Storms

Despite the fact that most of humanity is being forced to slow down, the weather isn't. We had a warm front go by the area overnight and now we have maritime tropical air in place.

How much sunshine we get today will determine just how warm it becomes. Temperatures this afternoon will definitely get into the upper 60s, but could get into the upper 70s in a few spots if we did see a lot of sunshine.

There will be a touch of humidity in the air, giving the day a feel of early summer. This is because dew points, which are a measure of humidity, will rise to a point more typical for late June.

A cold front will sweep eastward overnight tonight. As the colder air clashes with the warm air over us, showers and thunderstorms will develop and there could be some severe weather, especially across western New England later this afternoon and evening.

I don't expect to see widespread severe weather, but this is our first possible outbreak of the spring. Spring did arrive last night at 11:49 p.m. Today will be the official first full day of the season.

The weekend is looking rather chilly, with temperatures staying in the 40s. We are going to have to watch a weather system for early next week. With cold air in place and moisture trying to come up the seaboard, some areas could run the risk for snow. It would certainly be ironic if, after the winter we just had, we ended up getting a snowstorm, but nothing would surprise me.
