Today's Weather: Crisp Morning, Cool Afternoon

It's a crisp, cool start to the work week with temperatures in the 40s in much of the area and very low humidity. We got to enjoy the Canadian Air yesterday with dew points in the 30s.

A weak disturbance will cross the region during the day, producing a few clouds and perhaps a quick sprinkle or shower. It will be cooler than average, though when the sun is out it will still feel quite warm.

Tomorrow we'll see a moderating temperature trend with readings getting into the lower 70s. Humidity levels will continue to be comfortable. A southerly flow of air brings milder conditions with more humidity during the middle part of the week. There could also be a couple of showers and even the chance for a thunderstorm. The greatest risk for rainfall will be Wednesday.

Temperatures will reach the lower 80s by Thursday along with the higher humidity for a return of the summer feeling.

Meteorological summer begins today, meaning it's the start of the warmest 90 days of the year. May ended up cooler and drier than average and the dry weather to start the summer isn't good news for water managers or agricultural interest. If the present pattern continued for several more weeks, we would start to see official drought conditions emerge across much of the area. If that's the case, water bans are going to start to crop up – something we haven't had to deal with on a widespread basis in a couple of years.
