The House Committee on Oversight and Reform is holding a hearing Thursday examining the alleged role of Purdue Pharma and members of the Sackler family in the opioid epidemic.

Their privately owned company developed and aggressively marketed Oxycontin in the 1990s, growing into one of the nation's most profitable opioid producers, NPR reports.
