Indigenous Peoples' Day/Columbus Day 2021: What's open and what's closed

Throughout the past few years, the holiday observed on the second Monday of October has become a topic of debate. Though the day is still recognized as Columbus Day at the state and federal level, there have been several campaigns calling for the day to be observed as Indigenous Peoples' Day instead.

Many cities across Massachusetts, including Boston, Brookline, Somerville and Cambridge, have renamed the day to honor the original inhabitants of North America in lieu of celebrating Columbus, whose legacy of cruelty, enslavement and pillaging was noted and denounced even by his contemporaries.
