Boston police say an officer shot and killed suspect after suspect stabbed an officer

Boston police say that an officer shot and killed a suspect in Dorchester after the person allegedly stabbed another officer in the neck with a knife on Saturday evening.

Boston Police Department Superintendent-in-Chief Gregory Long says officers were responding to reports of a domestic incident on Ingleside Street.

"As the officers approached the third floor landing, they encountered a suspect. The suspect immediately assaulted the officers with a knife — stabbing one officer in the neck," according to a recording of Long's remarks during a press conference Saturday night provided to WBUR.

Long said another officer at the scene discharged his firearm and killed the suspect. The person has not been publicly identified.

Officials say the wounded officer has serious injuries but is expected to recover.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office is investigating.
