Sen. Elizabeth Warren has tested positive for COVID-19, she tweeted on Sunday.

"Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild symptoms & am grateful for the protection provided against serious illness that comes from being vaccinated & boosted," she wrote.

The 72-year-old Democrat says she is fully vaccinated, and received a booster shot.

In addition to announcing her positive test result, Warren urged those who have not gotten vaccinated yet to do so. "Together, we can save lives," she tweeted.

The country is currently experiencing a surge of coronavirus cases. Cases are expected to rise with the arrival of the omicron variant.

Warren didn't provide any further details about where she might have contracted the virus, but said she tested negative earlier in the week.

Sen. Cory Booker, of New Jersey, also announced on Sunday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement from his office, Booker said: “I’m beyond grateful to have received two doses of vaccine and, more recently, a booster — I’m certain that without them I would be doing much worse.”
